The Railway Higher secondary school was started in 1981,by the East India Company for the children of Railway employees. Housed in a heritage building the institution is supported by the Ministry of Railways.
Catering primarily to the wards of Railway Employees the school aims at all round personality development of all the children who study in the institution.
For more than a century, our motto has been study- serve- shine.
Due to our strong teaching and learning practices, our school’s pride- the alumnus of the school are spread all over the globe in esteemed positions.
Our institution is ever thriving to meet the global standards of education. The school aims at developing a vibrant society with rich moral values laid down by our dedicated and well qualified faculty members.

The Southern Railway [coming under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India] runs, under the Welfare Scheme, the Railway Higher Secondary School, Perambur, Chennai. Our School was started in 1891 and converted into CBSE School with effect from the Academic Year 2018-2019. Our Educational Service is carried out for more than 130 Years. The beneficiaries, being our old students, have been placed in very high posts – both in Government and Private Sectors, doing pride to our School.
Our General Educational motto is “STUDY – SERVE – SHINE” . The Morality/Value based motto is “PLAN – PERFORM – PROSPER”. The achievement of these mottos makes our students to become the Good Citizens of India.
The aim of our School is to impart Better and Qualitative Education to the Wards of Railway Employees and others and thereby to build a Better Nation.
The Curriculum of Studies and the Method of Teaching in our School are well planned to develop the Integrated Personality of the Students.
Our School has been rendering Valuable Services to the Wards of Railway Employees and also others by making them Physically Fit, Emotionally Stable, Mentally Alert, Socially Active and Spiritually Sound.
